HVAC Sounding Funny? Here's What Might Be Wrong

Your heating and air conditioning system is one of the most important parts of your home. It keeps you cool on those hot summer days and warm during cool winter nights. Without it, it would take a lot more work to keep your home comfortable. Many HVAC systems will work for many years without a problem, however, if your system is starting to sound a little funny, here are some tips to help you figure out what is going on with it so that you can have your HVAC repaired. Happy couple relaxing

    - Rattling outside unit – If your exterior unit rattles and makes clanging sounds, that could be a sign that there is loose hardware inside the unit. Loose hardware can allow the fan or other parts to move in ways that they shouldn’t. This could result in the unit failing completely.

    - Squeaking – If you are hearing a squeaking or squealing sound from your inside unit, it could indicate an issue with the blower belt or motor bearings. A bad belt is relatively cheap to correct, but it should be fixed before it breaks completely. If the bearings in the motor are dry or broken, this can also cause squeaking. This should be checked out immediately because replacing a blower motor can be very costly.

    - Clicking sounds – If you are hearing repeated clicking sounds from the unit, this could indicate that there is an issue with an electrical relay. Oftentimes these clicks will be in connection with other issues, such as the blower not running or the air not getting cold. Clicking sounds are normal at the thermostat and also when the unit first turns on or off, however it is when they repeat throughout the running cycle that they can be a concern

If you are hearing any of these sounds or any other unusual sounds from your HVAC system, it would be a good idea to have it examined by a professional. While it may be something minor, if it is a major issue, catching it early can be the key to it being an inexpensive HVAC repair here in Loganville. So if you are hearing more than the quiet hum of your unit, get it checked out as soon as possible.
